WHY WE RECOMMEND DELTA COMFORT+ SEATING
Comfort seating, first introduced to the airline industry in Dec 2014, has remained a popular seating option for airline passengers. Although it comes with extra leg room and amenities, it does cost travelers additional fees. Are these extra costs worth it?
Comfort Seating, The Airlines Solution To Cramped Quarters
Modern air travel has become increasingly unpleasant as airlines continue to shrink seat sizes to fit more passengers on board — and this is especially true in economy class. But not all airlines are heading in this direction. In fact, many of them are working to increase passenger comfort through new innovations.
Many airlines now have a comfort seating class so that passengers can get a bit extra leg room and other amenities without having to pay the the higher costs that come with premium economy or business class.
Most airlines now offer some version of this class and to simplify the matter we will focus on Delta Airlines’ Comfort+, one of the most prevalent which they offer at an additional fee.
Delta Comfort +
Travelers in Delta Comfort+ not only receive extra legroom (up to 3 inches on domestic flights and 4 inches on international flights), dedicated overhead bin space (so you don’t have to rush onto the plane to stow your carry-on), and priority boarding.
Passengers flying in Delta Comfort+ also have access to complimentary beer, wine, and spirits on flights longer than 350 miles, as well as complimentary fresh fruit and premium snacks like frozen Greek yogurt bars on flights over 900 miles when there is otherwise no meal service.
Delta Sky Priority Boarding
The first perk that Delta Comfort+ customers will take advantage of is the free Sky Priority Boarding, a perk usually reserved for Gold, Platinum, and Diamond Medallion members. You’ll be the first on the plane, giving you the chance to secure space in the overhead bins and to get to your seat without waiting in a long line.
You’ll be settled in and ready to fly long before the plane takes off, minimizing the stress of preparing for takeoff.
Wine, Spirits, Beer, Snacks and Food
Food and drink are an essential piece of the premium flight experience and Delta Comfort+ delivers on these expectations. Passengers can enjoy premium beers from the Ballast Point Brewing Company, Brooklyn Brewery, Newburyport Brewing Company, the Boston Beer Company, and more, free of charge. Seasonal cocktails and wines are also served on-board every flight. Passengers who can’t or don’t want to indulge can enjoy an in-flight Starbucks coffee instead.
Delta Comfort+ seats also come with a diverse food menu. Offerings include Stacy’s Brand Pita Chips, King’s Roasted Almonds, Oreos, and Varda Dark Chocolate. Passengers looking for a full meal can have a Luvo sandwich or wrap such as the sesame grilled chicken wrap or roast beef slider.
Transcontinental flights have a larger food menu that includes highlights such as black-Angus burgers and Mediterranean whole grain wraps.

Delta In-Flight Entertainment
Delta Comfort+ passengers also enjoy free access to in-flight entertainment. Kick back with complimentary premium entertainment from Delta Studio® and stay connected with Wi-Fi where available. Check out what is on Delta Studio. Depending on the length of your flight you can choose from up to 300 movies, including a number of recent releases.
If you want to catch up on the latest episodes of your favorite TV shows or have a child who wants to watch a familiar cartoon, those are available too. Each seat also has access to a wide selection of music, both new and old, as well as custom curated audio channels.
If you prefer to provide your own entertainment, most flights offer in-seat power outlets. You can power your own laptop, phone, or e-reader and enjoy whatever media you prefer without worrying about conserving battery life.
Passengers in Delta Comfort+ seats get free earbuds to make sure they can enjoy the entertainment offerings.

Dedicated Overhead Bin Space
When space becomes tight, the flight attendants will often take baggage from the more crowded rows and distribute it throughout the cabin. So even if your immediate neighbors don’t have a lot of baggage to fit into the overhead, you might still lose your spot if the rest of the plane is crowded.
Delta Comfort+ totally alleviates this hassle by giving you reserved overhead bin space. In addition to guaranteeing a spot for your bag, this perk saves you from having to stow your baggage in a different section of the plane if the bins directly above your seat are already full. That means you won’t have to run all the way to the back of the plan to grab your bag when it’s time to disembark.
Extra Legroom With More Recline
Delta Comfort+ offers an extra 4 inches of legroom. This means extra space for your carry-on, electronic devices and more. The real perk here, though, is the expanded recline.
Delta Comfort+ seats offer a wider degree of recline than the standard economy seats. What this actually means, at least on the Airbus A330-300, is that the seat actually slides forward as the seat-back reclines backwards. So, when you push back, your bottom slides forward at the same time, creating much more of a “lie-flat” economy class leaving you with a better and relaxed flight.
Comfort+ Extras
What really differentiates Comfort+ experience from the regular economy one are the small touches: amenity kits including a sleeping mask, ear plugs, toothbrush and toothpaste, and earbuds. This Class also comes with more attentive service and extra care from flight personnel. In this industry, a little extra care and thoughtfulness goes a long way.

How to Buy Delta Comfort+ Tickets
In addition to choosing Delta Comfort+ when making the initial flight booking, travelers can also purchase this cabin experience as an add-on, as selecting Delta Comfort+ doesn’t require a new ticket to be issued.
In fact, Delta Comfort+ can be added any time after the ticket is issued, up to three hours before the scheduled departure time, depending on availability.
You can also buy Delta Comfort+ seats using a different payment method than the one used on the original ticket. Customers can make this additional purchase by going to Delta’s website and clicking through to the “My Trips” section, or by calling Delta’s reservations hotline.
Medallion members who request an upgrade from the standard economy fare, however, may receive a complimentary upgrade to Delta Comfort+.
Medallion members receive upgrades according to both availability as well as status: diamond and platinum members may receive upgrades immediately after purchasing their ticket, while gold members have to wait 72 hours before departure. Silver members may not receive an upgrade until 24 hours before departure.

Should I Buy Delta Comfort+ Tickets?
Although this is a personal preference, I certainly would recommend this option on longer flights and always for those who are willing to pay the additional costs for having more leg room, faster and easier boarding and unboarding and better flight amenities. I would say for frequent fliers to at least give a test drive and see what you think.
I do recommend that those who do want this service, book and ticket their flights as earlier as possible as this seating is only available on a first come first serve basis. If you are working with a flight that is provided as part of a vacation such as a tour or cruise that includes air travel as part of the costs, that you take measures to get your air ticketed early. Many cruise lines line such as Viking Cruises and Regent Seven Seas may offer a custom air option that allows for more air options that give earlier access to flight reservations. Be sure to opt into these plans and get these add-ons done before it is too late.
