ARE VIKING MISSISSIPPI RIVER CRUISE EXPANSION PLANS ROLLING WITH THEIR UPCOMING ANNOUNCEMENT?
Will Viking finally acquire the ships necessary to sail the Mississippi river? If so how and when will this occur?
Viking’s Ellusive Mississippi Riverboat Plans
For years, Viking has been alluding to plans of acquiring Mississippi river ship access and the river boat ships to travel them. We here at Cruisin’ With Ted have been fielding questions for years from our thousands of followers about when this might occur. At times, even we have had our doubts, as the days passed with no further news of Viking’s continued interest in this endeavor.
Due to expensive requirements for US built ships manned by Americans, other cruise companies have resisted the temptation. However, with cruise bookings for existing domestic river cruise companies picking up, this market remains a lucrative prize for those willing to pay the price.
Viking About To Make Major Announcement
So, will Viking finally make a move into the US river cruise market? As earlier reported in my blog, Viking recently acquired access on the Mississippi as early as 2022. With an upcoming April 7th, New Orleans release event, these plans are apparently coming to fruition.
Viking this week sent invites to this event where it says chairman Torstein Hagen will officially reveal “the introduction of modern river cruising in the US”. Although there are no further details, we can only imagine what to expect.
We await the news in anticipation.
