HOW TO MAKE YOUR NEW YEARS TRAVEL RESOLUTIONS STICK

As we travelers ring in another new year, we are faced with our annual resolutions list: this year, why not put our travel agenda in a more auspicious light?

As a travel advisor, I am always mortified by the thought of someone letting another year of vacations dreams evaporate due to inadequate planning, financing or lack of interest. There is always the statement: ‘remember, we are not getting any younger’ that brings them back down to earth. Why let our desire to wander get swept aside as the years quickly pass? This article was written to help remedy this travel conundrum, once and for all.

Make A Decision

The first step seems simple enough, make a decision that you are going on a future vacation.  That’s it… just make the decision. Once you have made up your mind to do so, the rest is simple.

Make A Vacation List, Plan and Schedule For your Trips

Consider where you would like to go and how you would like to travel there. Be realistic, but don’t constrict yourself. Don’t be afraid to dream a little. Once you have done this assign the length of time for each. Then put a future schedule together so that you can see what planning will be needed to make this happen. Keep in mind location and different seasons and consult your own calendar for the best time to fit these in.

Cut Back On Needless Expenses

Avoid binging on outside dining when in-home meals will suffice. Try to schedule your day to allow for more freedom of dining times and options. Bringing an occasional lunch to work, instead of dining out, will save you plenty over time. Avoid excessive excessive alcohol consumption and try to stick to a healthier diet. Use your local library for reading material and take advantage of their online e-book and audio book services. When possible use your local Sams and Costco Clubs to save money and collect rewards. Use their Dining and Entertainment Discount cards.

Before making a purchase, ask yourself the actual need for the item over time. Look around your house and become more familiar with your past purchasing decisions. Ask yourself if everything bought was truly needed?

Prioritize Your Desires and Activities

How many of us have spent our lives taking care of everyone else around, only to neglect our own needs? At the same time, what about those who only think of themselves and ignore the rest of us? Work out a true life balance, take into consideration your own plans and how to best coordinate it with your family, work and friends. Try to include the ones you love in your plans and take the time to discuss and plan together.
